Ladoga Independent baseball team of the 1920's

This group of determined young men wore the uniforms of the Ladoga Baseball Team even though they were from several different towns.  In this picture of the team that played at Hughes Field on the West edge of town, there were players from Ladoga, New Market, Jamestown and Bainbridge.  Chet Vice remembered seeing this team play the late 20's or early 30's.  Standing from L-R are Bruce Stull, Mgr. Bill Cochran, and Warren (Nannie) Quinley, all of Ladoga.  In the second row from L-R are Archie Chadd from Bainbridge, Kenneth (Chinie) Craver of Ladoga, two players that Chet could not remember and Harold (Ike) Strickler of Ladoga.  Seated L-R are Unk., Chet Martin of New Market, Kilroy Steele of Jamestown, Casey Powers of New Market, and Warren (Tunie) Strickler of Ladoga.   As close as Chet could remember, Steele was the catcher, Powers played SS, Ike Strickler played 1B, Tunie Strickler played RF, Quinley pitched, Martin played CF, and Archie Chadd played 3B.  Chadd would go on to Butler University and graduate in the class of 1928.  He played baseball, basketball and football for the Bulldogs, captaining the basketball team his senior year.  He then became an assistant coach in basketball under Paul D. "Tony" Hinkle helping the Bulldogs to the National Collegiate Basketball Championship.  He would later coach the Anderson Indians to the IHSAA basketball championship in 1935 and 1937.  He is a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
